Privacy Policy
Steve's Mobile Mechanic is a sole proprietorship owned by Steven G Villalpando, doing business as Steve's Mobile Mechanic ("we", "us", "Steve"). It is a mobile car repair service in the Chicagoland area (Chicago and its suburbs), Illinois. This policy explains what we collect on stevefixit.com and when you call or text our business line, how we use it, and your choices. If anything here is unclear, email [email protected].
What we collect
- Live chat. What you type in the chat window, and the name and phone number if you choose to leave them.
- Message form. Your name, phone number and/or email, the subject and your message.
- Booking requests. Your name, mobile number, the address where the car is parked, the date and time you pick, your vehicle year and make, the job you want, and any notes you add.
- Quotes and estimates. The price tool on the site runs in your browser and does not send what you type to us until you book or message us. When we prepare a diagnostic estimate or invoice for you, it holds your name, contact details, vehicle details, the work and its price, and your approval or response.
- Phone calls and voicemail. The phone number you call from, the time and length of the call, and, if you leave a voicemail, the recording and a computer-made transcript of it.
- Text messages. Your mobile number, what you send us and what we send you, and whether a message was delivered. If you tick the text-message box on a form, we also keep a record of that consent (your number, the date and time, which form, and the wording you agreed to).
- Basic technical data. Like most sites, our hosting provider sees your IP address and browser details when you visit, and we use your IP address to limit spam and abuse.
We do not take card numbers or payments on this site.
How we use it
- To answer your chat, message, call or text and to schedule, confirm and do the work.
- To send estimates, invoices and receipts, and to keep your service history so we can fix your car right the next time.
- To send text messages you asked for, such as appointment updates, "on my way" notices, estimates, invoices and service questions, and, if you ask us to, a review request after a job.
- To route calls to Steve without showing you his personal number, and to make a transcript of voicemail so he can read it.
- To keep the site secure and to stop spam.
Text messaging
We do not sell or share your SMS opt-in data or personal information with third parties for marketing purposes. No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent will not be shared with any third parties.
We only text people who texted us first or who agreed to text messages (for example by ticking the optional box on our booking, message or chat forms). Agreeing is never required to book or get service. Reply STOP to any message to stop texts, or HELP for help. Message frequency varies, and message and data rates may apply. More detail is in our Terms.
Who handles the data for us
We do not sell your information. We use a few service providers that process data on our behalf only to run these services: Cloudflare (website hosting, storage and speech-to-text for voicemail) and Twilio (phone calls and text messages). Email we send from [email protected] goes through our email provider. We may also share information when the law requires it, or to protect against fraud or abuse.
Videos on our home page are Facebook videos that only load if you tap play. When you do, Facebook may set cookies and collect usage data under Facebook's own privacy policy.
How long we keep it
We keep customer, vehicle and job records as long as needed to service your car, honor warranties, and meet tax and legal record-keeping rules. Chat, message, call and voicemail records are kept in Steve's inbox until he deletes them. Ask us to delete yours at any time (see below).
Security
The business system is behind a password, and customer details are stored encrypted by our hosting provider. No method of storing or sending data over the internet is perfectly secure, but we limit access to Steve.
Your choices
- Stop texts: reply STOP to any text from us. You can opt back in later by replying START.
- See, fix or delete what we have about you: email [email protected] from the address you used or tell us your phone number. We will confirm who you are first.
- Calls: you can ask us not to record or transcribe a voicemail by not leaving one.
Children
This site is for adults who own or manage vehicles. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Changes
If we change this policy we will post the new version here and update the date at the top.
